While the Oculus Go launch has been insanely successful, some users have reported slight blurriness when watching Netflix or playing games. Unlike its predecessor, the oculus Go does not feature a focus wheel. If your eyesight is slightly bad but you do not wear glasses, you might be able to detect on a slight blurriness in most images. This can lead to a deterioration in the experience and eventually put you off the virtual reality headset.
Luckily there are some things that you can do in order to optimize the Oculus Go experience.
- Fiveated Rendering
FFR is a technology that helps the edges of your eye better texture images at lower resolution. Some eyes cannot render the center of the image as well as the edges, and vice-versa. By enabling FFR, you are forcing fewer pixels to be rendered which results in a huge impact on productivity. The GPU output can reach an improved value.
Another added benefit from enabling FFR, fragment shaders benefit from the multi-resolution rendering. The higher resolution pixels are fixed in the center of the eye texture.
- 72 Hz Mode
Higher frame rates are generally preferred for anything from movies to gaming. A higher frame rate means a lower latency, meaning, less lag and drops in quality.
The Oculus go is set to 60Hz already which gives the maximum amount of performance. If, however, you want to push things to the extreme, you can boost it to 72 Hz. Pushing it to 72 Hz will improve the visual quality.
Setting the Oculus Go device to 72 Hz will make colors brighter, as if run through a saturation filter, and make image pop out more. This is particularly helpful for people with bad eyesight or users with glasses.
