Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes Review

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be like those movie characters who are defusing the bomb with the experts giving them instructions over the phone, while the clock ticks, bringing them closer to the detonation? Thanks to a video games studio named Steel Crate Games, you are finally able to experience this.
The bomb has been planted
From games such as the infamous Counter Strike, we’ve learned that defusing a bomb requires simply holding down a button until the world is saved. Luckily, that’s not the case with this recently adapted to Oculus Go game! Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes takes us and our friends through series of complicated puzzles in an effort to defuse the bomb and save the player.

How does it work?

The game requires at least two players: one player is the Defuser and is the only one using the gaming device, while the other(s) is the Expert in possession of the defusal manual, which is available both on the game’s official website and as a downloadable and printable PDF document. The Defuser is ‘trapped’ in a room with a ticking time bomb and their job is to describe the modules as fast and accurate as possible to the Expert, while the Expert(s) frantically flips through the manual and gives the player necessary explanations and keys to solving the puzzles.

The puzzles are procedurally generated, so it’s impossible to learn the game ‘by heart’, but as there’s a finite amount of levels, there’s a risk of it becoming stale after a certain amount of time, as there surely will be players who are going to polish their skill and cooperation to the point where it wouldn’t be a challenge anymore.

Should you get it and why yes

This game is awesome for parties and gatherings – it’s a digital trust fall in a sense, so it can be either a bonding experience or a friendship destroyer. You don’t even need to be in the same room – you can also play remotely with people simply by communicating through voice chat programs: Discord, Skype,… you name it. This is an overall very refreshing gaming experience and also hilariously fun to play; 10/10.
