2020 is just around the corner and like every year, Oculus Connect serves to discover the Oculus Quest games that will arrive in the coming months, as well as to know the technological future of the headsets.
But, what is Oculus Connect? It is a two-day conference that brings together developers, creators and visionaries to celebrate and share VR’s advances, and it is held on September in San Jose, California.
In this edition, five horror games caught everyone’s attention at the conference. Each one stands out for its story, gameplay, visual elements and soundtrack. So, today we bring you a list of the 5 Oculus Quest horror games for 2020.

The Room VR: A Dark Matter
I bet this name rings a bell with you; well, you are right! The Room is a critically-acclaimed series of puzzle games created by Fireproof Games, who recently presented its next VR title called The Room VR: A Dark Matter.
In this game, they step into a new reality taking the player to The British Museum in London, where the disappearance of an esteemed Egyptologist prompts a police investigation.
This event will lead us to solve many different puzzles as we discover the mystery after the disappearance, and figure out all the secrets that this enigmatic museum hides.
The best part? You will be immersed in this mystery thanks to the VR technology of the Oculus Quest and its wonderful headsets, which transfer your movements to the game.
Another very interesting thing about this game, even though it is not considered in the same category of horror games, it is its dark atmosphere, which is influenced by H. P. Lovecraft.
Its Victorian elements and the strange machines that we will use, add a supernatural and immersive touch that will keep you on your toes, especially when things show up where they weren’t before; so it belongs to our Oculus Quest horror games list.
Also, there has always been an amazing element in The Room’s games; it is about giving the player space and time to look at things very carefully, and discover ways to get through by looking at them.
It’s not just about thinking, moving or interacting with the environment, sometimes you just have to look and you will find the answer, because it’s right there in front of you. Do you have what it takes?
The game is not too hard; it also has in-built hint system. In this hint system, you have three levels of hints, where the first hint will tell you nothing and the last hint will tell you a lot.
Players decide if they want to use the hints and how much of the hint they want the game gives them. Also, they can just not use the hints at all, it’s up to them. What will you do?
The game also has a teleportation system that allows players to be where they should be and reach everything from the exact position they need to be; this is one of the reasons why they did this.
Perhaps, it doesn’t allow the full immersion of the story, but there are mechanical and gameplay reasons, as well as benefits to doing that. They need to adapt to the limitation of every console in which the game is going to be reproduced.
However, developers think that they can change it in the future and do a game where you can actually move from one place to another. Just wait for it!
Besides a very short trailer and some screenshots, there is no other information about this game. However, if you have already played one of the games in this series, you should have an idea of what is behind this fascinating title.
Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul
This is probably one of the best Oculus Quest horror games of them all, and not only because of graphics, sound and story, but also because you can freely walk through the environment using Room Scale and really be part of the story.
This original story, based on the mythology of the massively popular Paranormal Activity film franchise, is here to give us jump scares and to remind us how fantastic and creepy the VR can be.
In Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul, you will explore what appears to be a quiet home and walk from spot to spot to proceed with the story. But, the closer you are to unveiling the mystery of that house, the more you will feel that you are not alone. Will you survive?
There is a big difference between the movies and the game, because in the movies the video cameras usually show almost the whole story and the movements of the evil presences that invade the house.
On the other hand, in the Oculus Quest, this is a first-person game where you will interact with the environment to solve (or try to solve) the mystery, looking for clues and checking every inch of the house. Good luck!
Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted
Are you ready for some jump scares? Well, you must! Because Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted is coming soon to Oculus Quest! It will probably be released some time during 2020.
As you may now, Five Nights at Freddy’s is an indie video game series originally created and developed by Scott Cawthon for Microsoft Windows, iOS, and Android.
The series is centered on the fictional Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, and so far, it has more than 10 games in this terrifying universe where animatronics come alive to catch you.
Right now, this new title is available both in Steam VR and Oculus Store for Oculus Rift. This VR version is a collection of classic and original mini-games set in the Five Nights universe.
You should survive terrifying encounters with the killer animatronics, including Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, Springtrap, The Mangle, Funtime Foxy, and Circus Baby.
This is one of the best Oculus Quest horror games that you must play! This time you are a security guard who will play in seven different modes: FNAF 1, FNAF 2, FNAF 3, Dark rooms, Parts and Service, Vent Repair and Night Terrors.
Even though, the first three modes are scenes from classic titles in an immersive VR experience, the other four modes are mini-games where you need to repair claustrophobic vent systems or the animatronics according to the instructions.
This game is just amazing and scary at the same time; it is a perfect mix between screams and laughs, as the co-founder Andrew Dayton said “I can always tell if we’re heading down the right road with our levels if we have that right mix of frights and fun”.
In fact, his favorite levels in the game are the elevator levels; because they “created such a tense and stressful experience that it really demonstrates how Five Nights at Freddy’s works so well in VR”.
You control doors, lights, and can swap cameras to check your surroundings and know where the terrifying animatronics are, but you need to do it as fast as possible or they will catch you. Quickly!
In this way, you understand that these experiences are not the result of the creepy environment, but are the consequences of your own actions, because the game will test your psychological abilities and capabilities. Are you ready?
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners & Snow Drift
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners
Zombies, weapons, factions, survival and blood are words that perfectly describe The Walking Dead series, an AMC’s American post-apocalyptic horror television series.
However, the level of horror increased when a VR game from the same universe of the series was announced in the 2018 Comic-Con in San Diego, which could be played in the Oculus Quest.
In this title, you are set in New Orleans, three years after the outbreak and the collapse of civilization, as well as the beginning of the zombie era. This is a single player game, with a story that will probably take around 15 hours to complete.
You are totally immersed in an apocalyptic world, using all sorts of weapons, such as firearms, knives, regular-sized weapons, axes, assault rifles and improvised melee weapons to defeat both desperate survivors and dead enemies.
Besides, you have a backpack that you will fill with food and gear, a notebook with quests and other necessary menus in the game, and a reliable flashlight. Do you think you have enough to survive?
As in the series, the world of The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is divided into factions. There is the Tower, a terrible group located in a downtown; they control the flow of zombies through the use of bells and do some very particular rituals.
On the other hand, there are also outsider groups, which try to get the Tower answering for crimes they’ve committed. Although, as in the series, it is hard to know who you can trust, so be very careful!
I bet this one will be also consider one of the best Oculus Quest horror games of 2020, especially because you need to make difficult choices.
You will have to choice what factions will you join or defeat, which weapons will you use and what survivors will you rescue or kill; that is, our decisions and their consequences will shape the story and its ending.
Developed by Skydance, they want you to feel like you’re in a zombie apocalypse, with all the desperation included. That’s why weapons get stuck in walker’s heads when you attack them, making each moment in combat a terrifying experience.
For this reason, virtual reality and the Oculus Quest headset are the best options for this type of games, as explains the Vice President of Global Interactive Marketing Guy Costantini:

Snow Drift
There is not much information about this new game, but it is very likely that it will be released some time during 2020.
So far, we only know that it is a very dark survival game that takes place in the Alaskan wilderness, where you are the lone survivor of a plane crash and you have to survive until help arrives.
You will have to defeat wild animals, imminent dangers and the cruelty of cold and nature that threaten to break you, as well as find food, light a fire and look for shelter to spend the night. Doesn’t it sound amazing and exciting?
An unmissable experience
Horror games are an experience that everyone should try even once in their lives, either through computer games or using one of the new headsets that immerse you in the story.
Since the uncertainty, effort and fear that these games present allow us to feel that virtual reality is an incredible way to communicate emotions and experiences in a totally different way, these games should be a must-have on your list.
